Ending

Jeremy, the cop, was not ready to lose another person to death. He had studied criminology and psychology and he knew that he was capable of convincing anyone to do what he wanted. Nevertheless he was aware that he had not been able to be successful with the last few people he had tried to convince not to commit suicide, and that was exactly why his coworkers did not take him seriously, but what could he do? It was clear that this man was not going to be easily convinced.

Jeremy went back to the window and put his head out in order to be able to see the man properly once again. The sun was shining and there were no clouds on the sky, you could even hear birds singing happily around them. For Jeremy, that would have been the perfect day to go for a walk with the family or practicing sports… He believed that all this was very ironic as nobody would imagine that during that beautiful day, someone would be trying to commit suicide.  The cop laid his eyes back to the unlucky man and that is when he realized that the man was directly staring at the crowd which was encouraging him to jump.

-What the hell is wrong with these people? The cop thought to himself. What kind of disgusting creature emboldens someone who is about to ruin his life?

Abruptly he saw a sudden move and afraid that he was about to jump, without losing any time he told the man:

-“Ok, let´s do something, you tell me why you are here and then you can do whatever you want. I won´t keep you off from your destiny. Now tell me”, he asked him anxiously.

-“I know what you are trying to do cop. You only want to safe your dam job, that is why you are trying to help me! You don’t really care about me so don’t dare getting near me or I will jump!” the suicide shouted angrily.

-“Actually you are right”, said Jeremy with an arrogant tone. “I don’t really care why you are here and hey, I don’t even care if you jump either, but you know what? Nobody cares about anyone else, nowadays, people just think of themselves, so accept it and stop losing my time”.

Jeremy was about to go back into the hotel room and abandon the man to his fate when he realized that he was trying to sit down. Jeremy went back to his original position and just when he looked at the suicide, the guy started to talk.

-“My name is Ray and I was about to marry the most beautiful woman in this city. She was intelligent, timid… she was hilarious!”

Suddenly, Ray started crying uncontrollably. It seemed as if he was about to have a heart attack and obviously Jeremy was scared that he was going to fall due to this reaction so he encourage him to try and continue speaking by touching the back of his shoulder.

-“My wife has abandoned me. I won´t be able to get her back. She was perfect… Now I won´t be able to have a family and I will have to live on my own for the rest of my life. Cop, I don’t think it is worth living without having her in my life. She is my angel!” Ray cried loudly.

Jeremy did not know what to say as he knew how the man felt. Actually he had lived a similar situation a few years earlier as his wife had left him too. Suddenly he felt he wasn’t strong enough to help the poor man. How am I going to aid this man, if I wasn’t able to fix my relationship either? He thought to himself.

He was about to leave again when a big bird appeared form nowhere and landed next to Ray. It was a very big bird, we could even say that it was approximately 1 meter long. This creature, was extremely colorful and although it was hard to believe, it had colors going from dull grays and browns to brilliant reds, yellows, greens, and blues. It had a straight and short, brown beak and a pair of enormous, black eyes which if you looked carefully, transmitted peace.

Jeremy was completely flabbergasted when he saw the beauty of the bird. He had never seen such animal in his whole life, which was incredible as he was an animal lover and he knew in great detail most of the animals in the whole world. He was so abstracted on what he had seen, that he did not realize that the bird had turned into an exquisite woman. She was very tall and slim and had dark, black, straight hair and the same enigmatic eyes the bird had had previously. Jeremy saw her look directly into Ray´s eyes and after what seemed hours, both the women and Ray turned into suddenly into birds as if they were cocoons tuning into butterflies. The rose to the sky at the same time and left the place flying and moving away; flapping their wings towards the hazy horizon. 

Do you have to drink and smoke in order to have a good time with friends?

Unfortunately, nowadays youths do not know how to have a good time with friends without smoking or drinking. They believe that by drinking alcohol and smoking, they will turn out to be more popular and that they will have many friends, but is that completely true? Do you turn out to be fashionable by doing it?

I see eye to eye with people who believe that children and specially youths are very strongly influenced by society. Everywhere we look, not just in bars or restaurants but on social networks as well, we see people smoking and drinking and, as we tend to associate that with being able to have fun, we unconsciously copy it as often, we believe that society will accept us if we carry out those actions.  Moreover, as teenagers basically depend on technological devices and therefore on social networks such as Facebook or Twitter, they are bombarded constantly with this social pressure.

On the other hand, it is also true that there are also many other children who do not like following society and deny smoking or drinking alcohol. These teenagers like playing outdoors, practising sports and meeting with other youths to perhaps play board games. Unluckily, many of these kids suffer bullying and they often try to keep their dislike towards these kind of actions as a secret. This is perfectly hideous as it should never happen to anyone just because they do not like the same things as the rest of the children. Therefore, if I were the government, I would undoubtedly make laws which would strictly prevent bullying, as it is something disgraceful.

Overall, I believe that although many youths try to avoid it, most of them do not know how to how to share happiness with their friends if it is not drinking or smoking. Therefore, if I were a person who had great impact on society, I would certainly make something to change this behaviour, as what is better than having a healthy time with your friends?

             

Biodiversity

Biodiversity is commonly referred as one of the most problematic issues in the world as it is strictly linked to global warming. Not just because of global warming, but due to some human acts like for example deforestation, it is causing some ecosystem to disappear among many other horrible issues. This causes the extinction of many animas which often are very important as they serve for feeding other creatures or even plants. It is undoubtedly known that biodiversity has provided us with many benefits. Some of them come in the form of goods that can be of great value and cost because they provide something that can be taken and sold. These goods include everything from domesticated agricultural crops that provision the basis of the food for the whole world, to medicines that protect and cure us, the make-up and the clothes we usually wear. Therefore it is clearly seen that the cost associated with the deterioration or vanishing of various ecosystems will be very high although not many people are aware of it yet.

One of my class mates, has given me various very useful solutions and one of them is that we should control the human presence in a specific set of places, in order to prevent the destruction of valuable ecosystems for some animal species. I completely see eye to eye with my class mate, moreover, I believe that the governments in every single country should create a law which made sure that people could not damage important ecosystems or any other necessary thing. Nevertheless, I am aware that this idea is quite difficult to carry it out, but what can we lose by trying?

                                          

Rostropovich and Johnny Rotten

It is clearly noticeable the difference between Johnny Rotten and Rostropovich as we can see an evident contrast, not just on their style of music, but on their physical appearance as well. Rostropovich was a musician, famous for being a Soviet and Russian cellist and conductor. Actually, he is considered to be one of the greatest cellists ever to have lived. His classical music was characterized for being both relaxing and inspiring and although he often played solos, he also played with other musicians for particular concerts. On the other hand, Johnny Rotten, is an English singer-songwriter and musician, better known as the lead singer of the punk rock band Sex Pistols. His music is totally different to Rostropovich´s, as it is totally the opposite of relaxing although for some people it can be very inspiring and activating. Different from the famous cellist, he plays with his group most of the time, both as a singer and player and only in some occasions, he plays solos.

                  

Zoos

As far as I am concerned, there are many zoos around the world which claim that they are collaborating and trying to prevent​ the extinction of some animals species, but is that completely true or are they really a place where animals suffer and where people make money?

On the one hand, there are some zoos which have a huge reputation for helping animals in danger of extinction. They have many very qualified vets who look after each and every single animal in the zoo and allow them to breed using non-harming techniques. They even have artic animals like for example, penguins which as it is known, are in danger of extinction due to the global warming and the melting of the glaciers. These places normally have enormous open spaces for the animals to feel like at home and they even have artificial rainfall to simulate some of the specie´s habitat. Zoos sustain mostly on donations from rich people apart together with the money they collect from the tickets paid by the visitors, therefore, if I  had a lot of money, I would undoubtedly give away money to these places, as their only aim is to conserve important and necessary species.

On the other hand, I also see eye to eye with people that argue that some zoos are not the best place for animals especially for wild ones. It is not a bed of roses to look after them and sometimes it is so dangerous to get near them that they spend most of the time locked in very small cages. Visitors come to see the animals because they love seeing them from a distance, but is it worth it? From the outside it may seem as if the animals where happy, healthy and very well looked after. However, that is not true at all, as some of those animals have depressions because they don’t have enough space to have a normal life. Others need a special climax that, no matter what simulations are used, it will always be impossible for them to adapt to it and most of this animals sooner or later end up dead.

Therefore if I were the government, I would only accept zoos or any kind of protected places where animals were kept in captivity only if it was extremely necessary to breed them. I would prohibit any other type of zoo and I would make very strict laws against that, as after all, what would the world be without animals?

Social Security

Nowadays, social security has changed a lot from what it used to be when it first started and personally, I think it has changed for the worse. A few years ago, when you asked for an appointment, they could give you one for that same day or the following one, no matter which doctor you wanted to see. That is totally the contrary to what happens now as whenever you ask for an appointment, no matter if it is serious or not, you are given a date for four or five months later which I believe is disgraceful and intolerable. Moreover, when you arrive at the doctor, everything is so slow that you take ages to see the actual doctor. Thus, that is why I suggest that the government, should stop with the budget cuts for social security, as after all, our health is more important than anything else in the world.

Basic Income

As far as I am concerned, nowadays the basic salary income is lower than it should be.  First of all, I see eye to eye with people who might believe that having such a low basic salary makes the middle class disappear and turn into a lower class, as the prices of everything in general are increasing enormously each day. Therefore, as the minimum salary income stays the same, people might be able to afford fewer and fewer things, some of them even having problems to pay the rent, which is a basic necessity. Therefore I believe that the government should raise the basic salary income for all citizens in order to make sure that all have the opportunity to get a decent style of life.

Should I take a gap year?

As far as I am concerned, there are various different things someone can do when he finishes high school. Some people go for taking a gap year to perhaps travel or work and others decide to look into  starting university as soon as possible, but what is the best option?

On the one hand, nowadays the fact that we need a university degree in order to be able to get a decent job is unquestionable. Nevertheless, it is also true that due to having an economic crisis in Spain, it really doesn’t matter if you finished your studies a year later as it  would always be difficult to get hold of the job of your dreams. However, if I were someone who was trying to decide on what to do, I would undoubtedly start the degree I want because the sooner you get your degree, the easier it will be to obtain the job you deserve.

On the other hand, I also see eye to eye with people who think that it is preferable taking a year off as in the case where you decide to work, you get more life experiences and actually in the long term it is beneficial as you will be able to include it on your curriculum. Moreover, if you decided to travel you would be able to relax, meet new people, and get to know more cultures and that can enrich you as a person.

However, at the end of the day someone in this position should choose the best option for himself as each of us have different situations. Therefore, if I were any of those people, I would think twice before making  a decision as either alternative can change your life completely.

Describing Someone

I have always admired my grandfather because he has been the strongest person I have ever known. He was a tall and very thin man with dark brown hair and eyes who loved reading and reciting poems from famous authors from memory.When he was young he was brave enough to create the first school in a town near Orihuela called La Aparecida.  He had observed that most children in the town, could not afford going to school because they had to go to Orihuela. Therefore, without even knowing if the government would accept, he created the school with his own savings. He was so generous that he changed his whole house into a beautiful school, and the government appreciated so much the idea, that they did not just gave him the money he had spent back, but also made him the headteacher. However, later he was told that if he wanted to continue in that position he had to learn Valenciano and as he has always been so intelligent and retailer, he learnt it in less than 3 months. All this makes me feel that my grandfather has always been and will be a spectacular and great person.

Guernica

When I look at the painting of Guernica, I see a chaotic scene and when we observe the drawn faces, we can clearly notice the desperation, the suffering and the agonizing people during that situation. This image makes me feel hurt and at the same time ashamed of the human kind, as I can´t believe any human has been able to provoke such painful situation.  I can observe dead bodies all over the floor and people having to step on them in order to escape from that dangerous position. This painting also makes me feel scared, as I can´t imagine myself in that place and because I would not know how to react. I see destroyed families, friendships and lives and all this makes me feel powerless and helpless knowing that it is not impossible that this might happen again without any of us being able to do anything about it.
